Tarty Weekender #2

Well, as the above picture might suggest, this weekend was spent at a comp - specifically, the Shipley Glen round of the British Nationals. Most of the day was nice 'n' sunny, but there was a bit of rain, meaning that some - like Ali decided to spend some time under a rock for shelter...

While Ali was hiding from the elements, Kenny and World Champ got a bit of freestyle tea-potting action on the go:

Some of the sections were pretty long, with some hectic piles of rock to climb up, like the end of this section that Ali was battling through.

Fortunately (in a way), Ali knew that he wasn't going to be challenging for the overall podium and so he could take it easy and just have a fun ride. This led to a death or glory ride, meaning it was either cleans or fives...

...but it did mean the chance to mess around, like wheelieing across a slippery mossy slope that everyone else was gently easing themselves along.

...and tweaking out some stylish up-to-fronts on other bits...

...and some hefty drop-gaps over the majority of some sections...

...and some no-handed trackstands.

In general though, it was a pretty rad day. Plenty of awesome riding went on (Including Danny Butler getting a second lap of 1?!), and a lot of awesome stuff after the comp too - although that's going to be featured in the next few days with potentially a mini-edit? Who knows. In any case, it was good to see a bunch of familiar faces, put some faces to some names and meet some totally new people to boot. It was also pretty good to see that there were plenty of younger riders around too. It's good to know that there's a new generation coming through the comp ranks, and with how good the bikes are for kids these days they're not going to be held back by sub-standard equipment any more.

As I said though, there's plenty of photos of some ridiculousness that went down out-of-section and after the comp, so expect another photo post in the new few days. There's a bit of footage on the videocamera too, so there may be a little mini edit, but we'll see...

EDIT: Someone clearly reads the blog too, and a good few others do too judging from the amount of people who told me they'd found Ali's helmet - first photo in wins, those are the rules!
